Matt Reeves’ Gotham is getting crowded, and that is exactly what makes The Batman: Part II feel more interesting. After years of waiting, delays, and fan speculation, the sequel is finally taking shape with a cast that mixes familiar faces from the first film with several major new additions.

Robert Pattinson is back as Batman, continuing the younger, more detective-focused version of Bruce Wayne introduced in The Batman. He will be joined again by Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Reál, and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez. That returning group makes it clear that Reeves is not resetting the board. He is building directly on the Gotham he already established.

The biggest new name is Sebastian Stan, who is reportedly playing Harvey Dent. That casting immediately changes the conversation around the sequel because Harvey is one of the most important figures in Batman’s world. Before becoming Two-Face, he is usually presented as Gotham’s district attorney, a man who wants to clean up the city from within the system. In a Reeves version of Gotham, where corruption sits at every level, Harvey Dent feels like a natural fit.

Scarlett Johansson has also joined the cast, though her role has not been officially announced. That has led to plenty of speculation, especially with Harvey Dent now part of the story, but this is one of those cases where it is better to hold off on naming a character until Warner Bros., DC Studios, or Reeves confirms it. The same goes for Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch, who are both attached to the film without confirmed roles.

Charles Dance is another major addition, with reports linking him to Harvey Dent’s father. Some reporting has described the character as Christopher Dent, while other outlets have used Charles Dent, so that should still be treated carefully. Either way, the idea of the Dent family entering this universe suggests The Batman: Part II could be digging into legacy, trauma, and the public image of Gotham’s most powerful people.

What stands out about this cast is how much it points toward a more political Gotham. The first movie focused heavily on corruption, police failure, organized crime, and Bruce Wayne realizing that fear alone was not enough. With Mayor Bella Reál returning, Gordon still rising within the system, Penguin gaining power after the events of HBO’s The Penguin, and Harvey Dent entering the picture, the sequel seems positioned to explore Gotham’s institutions just as much as its criminals.

There are also a few notable absences from the current cast rollout. Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, and Barry Keoghan have not been part of the confirmed lineup so far. That does not mean Catwoman, Riddler, or Joker are impossible, but it does mean fans should be careful about assuming they are involved. Reeves has been patient with this universe, and the Joker tease from the first movie does not have to become the main focus right away.

That may be the smartest move. Batman’s rogues gallery is deep, but Reeves’ version works best when the villains are tied to Gotham’s wounds rather than simply showing up as comic book icons. If Harvey Dent is central to the sequel, The Batman: Part II has the chance to tell a story about justice, public trust, and what happens when the few people trying to fix Gotham are broken by it.

For now, the confirmed cast gives fans plenty to work with. Pattinson’s Batman is returning to a city still recovering from the Riddler’s attack. Penguin is still in play. Gordon and Alfred remain key parts of Bruce’s world. And with Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch joining the mix, Reeves’ sequel is starting to look like a major expansion of this crime saga.

The Batman: Part II is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
