THQ Nordic Went All In on Gothic and Quietly Shrank Its Slate

THQ Nordic ran its annual Digital Showcase on Friday, August 7, filling roughly an hour with trailers from studios most publishers would bury in a press release. No tentpole reveal, no surprise sequel to a household name. What the show did have was a lot of Gothic, a handful of firm dates, and a closing title card that says more about the company’s direction than anything in the presentation.

That card, shown after the final trailer, read that THQ Nordic has 29 games in development, with 12 still unannounced after the broadcast.

Gothic Took Over the Show

Alkimia Interactive spent its segment on a direct message to players rather than a trailer. The studio said it has been tracking feedback across videos, comments, and bug reports since the Gothic 1 Remake launched in June, and framed the game as an ongoing project rather than a shipped product. The free post-launch additions coming in the next few months include a photo mode, a developer-style Marvin Mode, full mod kit support, and alternative progression mechanics.

The original trilogy is also making the jump to consoles. Gothic Classic is out now, Gothic II Complete Classic arrives September 29 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series, and Gothic 3 Classic follows November 24 on PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series. Gothic Classic is heading to iOS as well, with reworked graphics and touch controls.

Then there is Gothic: A Shadow’s Quest, a tabletop adaptation with a scale map of the Valley of Mines and miniatures, launching its Gamefound campaign September 30. Four separate Gothic segments in a single hour is not subtle. Neither is the absence of a Gothic 2 remake, which was the thing the comment section under the showcase announcement had been asking for.

Dates, Launches, and Updates

REANIMAL: The Prisoner is out now. Tarsier Studios’ first DLC for its co-op horror game adds two playable characters, the Soldier and the Prisoner, moving through war-scarred versions of areas players have not seen. It is included in the season pass.

Way of the Hunter 2 landed the show’s cleanest date, September 29 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-orders open now.

Expeditions: Samurai is in early access on PC. Campfire Cabal committed to three major updates before full release, focused on balance, exploration, stealth, and combat.

Titan Quest II added Spirit Mastery, a summoner-oriented skill tree built around Underworld powers and manipulating life and death, along with a crafting system. Still early access.

Wreckfest 2 got a sizzle reel covering its early access run since February 2025, including new destruction mechanics, expanded vehicle customization, and community-favorite modes like Suicide Races and Waypoint Races. Bugbear again declined to date the console version, saying only that it will talk when it is ready.

Call to Arms: Panzer Elite picked up two campaign missions, Le Mesnil-Adelée and Bastogne, plus the M18 Hellcat and M24 Chaffee.

The Eternal Life of Goldman got a behind-the-scenes look at its hand-painted, hand-animated art and boss design. Still no release date, still coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The pre-show handled karaoke and pinball. Let’s Sing 2027 brings 35 tracks including Ariana Grande and Chappell Roan, and a Let’s Sing ABBA pack with 32 songs arrives November 3, timed to the 50th anniversary of Dancing Queen. Zen Studios closed out with a Pinball FX table roundup. A Switch compilation reel covered Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, the Sacred 2 remaster, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide, and the Destroy All Humans 2 remakes, and Epic Mickey: Rebrushed was announced for mobile.

The one genuine mystery was a teaser for an unannounced DigixArt project, confirmed by THQ Nordic as a first look with no title attached.

What Did Not Show Up

Darksiders 4 was announced at last year’s showcase. It was not in this one, not even as a logo. Gunfire Games has said nothing publicly since, and the silence in a presentation this stuffed with minor updates is louder than it would be at a busier event.

Anyone hoping the 12 unannounced games would get a Marvel-style stinger at the end, the way the 2022 South Park tease worked, went home empty.

Where This Leaves Things

THQ Nordic has settled into a specific identity. It is the publisher of demolition derbies, hunting sims, WWII armor simulations, feudal management games, and a German cult RPG franchise it is now monetizing across remakes, console ports, mobile, and cardboard. Those are real audiences, and the Gothic 1 Remake performing well enough to justify a full support roadmap suggests the strategy is working on its own terms.

The showcase sale is live now, running August 7 through 14 on Steam with REANIMAL at 25 percent off, Titan Quest II at 30, Wreckfest 2 at 25, SpongeBob at 50, and the Darksiders franchise up to 85. Gothic 1 Remake is 10 percent off on Steam and 20 percent on Xbox, where the promotion ran August 4 through 10.
