Gotham fans will be waiting a little longer. Warner Bros. has moved The Batman Part II off its October 1, 2027 release date, with the Matt Reeves sequel now set to open on February 18, 2028.
The shift is part of a larger shuffle on the studio’s calendar. J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi fantasy The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, vacated its November 2026 slot and landed on October 1, 2027, pushing Batman to the four-day Presidents’ Day holiday weekend. It is a window with a proven superhero pedigree, having previously launched Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Captain America: Brave New World, though only one of those left theaters as an unqualified hit.
Reeves paired the announcement with a first look, releasing camera test footage of Robert Pattinson back in the cowl. Production on the sequel started five months later than planned, and the new date gives Reeves additional breathing room in post-production. The film will still play on IMAX screens.
The delay caps a long and bumpy road for the follow-up to 2022’s The Batman. Originally dated for October 3, 2025, the sequel was pushed to October 2026 by the writers strike, then to October 2027 while Reeves finished the script, and now four more months into 2028. By opening night, nearly six years will have passed since the first film.
Pattinson returns alongside Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. New cast additions include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch.
