Mia Goth is joining the Star Wars universe in director Shawn Levy’s upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter. The movie, which also stars Ryan Gosling, is scheduled to begin production this fall with a planned theatrical release on May 28, 2027.

Starfighter is not a direct continuation of the Skywalker saga but instead introduces a fresh story with new characters. It takes place about five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, making it the most current point on the Star Wars timeline so far. This gives Levy and screenwriter Jonathan Tropper plenty of room to expand the galaxy in new directions.

Goth’s casting brings a notable addition to the project. Known for her intense performances in Pearl and the upcoming Frankenstein directed by Guillermo del Toro, Goth continues to build a versatile career. She will also be seen in The Odyssey from Christopher Nolan, alongside an impressive ensemble that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson.

For Levy, Starfighter marks his next major project following the blockbuster success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Levy will again collaborate with Tropper, whose previous work with the director includes The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You.

Details about Starfighter’s plot and character roles remain under wraps, but with Goth and Gosling headlining, and Levy at the helm, this standalone Star Wars film is shaping up to be one of the more anticipated entries in the franchise’s future slate.
