Spoiler warning for the new Endgame: Encore scenes.
Avengers Endgame: Encore opens in the US on September 25, but the film is already out in Korea, where early audiences have seen the new post-credits scenes and details that set up Avengers: Doomsday. Descriptions from those screenings have spread across Reddit and social media. Marvel hasn’t confirmed any of it, and the accounts don’t all agree, so treat everything below as reported until the film opens wide.
A Knock at Steve and Peggy’s Door
The biggest change lands inside the movie itself. Endgame originally closed on Steve Rogers dancing with Peggy Carter in the life he went back for. The Encore version adds Loki knocking on their door. Peggy answers and asks what he wants while Steve hides around the corner, and Loki tells her he can help both of them. This is the TVA-era Loki from the Disney+ series, but when the scene takes place isn’t clear. Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell are all in the announced Doomsday cast, so the scene points straight at where Steve and Peggy go next.
The TVA Watches the Multiverse Break
One post-credits scene goes back to the TVA. Miss Minutes opens it with an explanation of the agency, and a picture of Loki hangs on the wall next to timelines arranged like a tree, the structure Loki holds together as the God of Stories at the end of Loki season 2.
Mobius and Ouroboros then spot incursions on the monitor. Earth-10005, the Fox X-Men universe, and Earth-1127, which hasn’t appeared in live action, look set to collide, and then the count jumps to 3,000 universes with incursions. One Reddit description has O.B. saying the multiverse is collapsing as realities crash into each other. With Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and much of the Fox X-Men cast set for Doomsday, Earth-10005 showing up on that monitor is the most direct X-Men tie-in the MCU has put on screen so far.
Doom Comes for the Hulk
The second scene finds Bruce Banner after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He’s locked in a military complex two miles underground and says the Hulk isn’t getting out and no one else is getting in. Then his camera crashes to the ground and Doctor Doom’s voice announces he’s come to collect him. A Reddit user who described the scene says Banner is testing a new way to control the Hulk when it happens.
According to one account, Doom is only heard and never shown. The Hulk transforms, a flash of green light fills the room, and the camera pans down to Latverian symbols burned into the ground. Some descriptions go further and say Doom absorbs the Hulk’s powers, but that part hasn’t been corroborated. Hulk wasn’t in Marvel’s Doomsday cast announcement, so this scene would be the first sign he’s in the movie.
Tony’s Forge, Doom’s Mask
The last tease reportedly reuses footage from the original Iron Man. Tony Stark forges his Iron Man mask, then starts making a Doctor Doom mask, and the film ends on Doom’s face. Robert Downey Jr. is playing Victor von Doom in Doomsday, and this scene has fans asking whether Doom is a variant of Tony.
Not Every Screening Gets Every Scene
Where you watch Encore changes what you see. BBFC runtimes put the Infinity Vision version at 186 minutes and 14 seconds against the original 181, while regular screenings run 183 minutes and 3 seconds, about two minutes of new footage. Disney also said Encore carries a custom introduction, new footage, and a special end tag for Infinity Vision and IMAX screenings. Infinity Vision screens have to be at least 45 feet wide with Dolby 7.1 sound and meet a set brightness level. Reports haven’t settled which of the scenes above are premium-only, so check your format before buying tickets.
The order of the scenes is also unsettled. One Reddit user said the Hulk and Doom scene played first, another said the TVA scene came first at their screening, and counts of the end credits stingers range from three to four. Differences between formats could explain some of that.
Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18.
