Chris Evans appears to be back for the long haul. The actor, whose return as Steve Rogers was already locked in for Avengers: Doomsday, has now hinted that his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will stretch into Avengers: Secret Wars.

The tip came from an unlikely place. Instagram user Jessica Zborowski, who posts as comicconmomsi, shared the audio of a personalized video her husband arranged for their 20th wedding anniversary. In it, a fan presses Evans for Avengers secrets, and the actor sidesteps the spoilers but offers something almost as good. “I start work on the next one in a couple of months, so I’m in the next one. There’s that,” he says.

Evans never names the film, and this is not an official Marvel Studios announcement. The timing does most of the talking, though. Doomsday wrapped filming in 2025, which means the project he would be reporting to in the coming months is Secret Wars, set to begin production in mid-2026. Put simply, if Evans is shooting another Avengers movie this year, Steve Rogers is making it through Doomsday alive and carrying over into the finale.

Evans last hung up the shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame, handing it to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and seemingly closing the book on the character. The first Doomsday teaser reopened it, and reporting since has pointed to a version of Rogers pulled from outside the main timeline rather than the one fans last saw. His exact role in either film is still under wraps.

There is also a milestone attached to all this. Evans matched Samuel L. Jackson’s record for the most Marvel Studios appearances when he signed on for Doomsday. A confirmed Secret Wars role would push him past it, giving the OG Avenger the most MCU credits of any performer.

Both films are directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
