The Elden Ring movie is officially moving forward in a big way. A24 and Bandai Namco have announced that the film will hit theaters on March 3, 2028, and the project now has a full cast attached.

Alex Garland is set to write and direct the adaptation, which already made this one of the more interesting video game movies in development. With a release date now locked in and a cast finally revealed, the project feels much more real than it did a few months ago.

The announced cast includes Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz. The roles have not been publicly detailed yet, but the lineup gives the movie a strong mix of dramatic talent, recognizable faces, and actors who can fit the strange tone of Elden Ring’s world.

That tone is going to be the big thing fans watch closely. Elden Ring became a massive success because of its scale, atmosphere, and layered storytelling. It is a fantasy world that feels broken, ancient, and hard to fully understand, and that is a huge part of its appeal. Turning that into a movie is not just about recreating monsters and armor. It is about capturing the feeling of the Lands Between without making it feel too neat or overly explained.
That is part of why Garland’s involvement matters so much. His work tends to lean into mood, tension, and uneasy worlds, which makes him a more natural fit for this material than a more traditional blockbuster director. A24 being attached also suggests the studio sees this as something a little more distinct than the usual game adaptation.
For now, fans still have a long wait before the movie arrives, but this update finally gives the project real shape. It is no longer just an idea with a big title attached. It now has a date, a cast, and a clearer identity, which is usually the point where anticipation really starts to build.
