Marvel Studios has finally released the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, and it brings nearly every corner of the MCU together to stand against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. After a run of four short character teasers across December and January, and a version shown behind closed doors to CinemaCon attendees back in April, the complete look is now public and timed to the studio’s return to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con.
Downey Jr. sets the tone by narrating the preview before the focus shifts to the heroes, a framing that keeps Doom at the center of everything even when he is not on screen. This is the culmination of the multiverse storytelling Marvel has been building since Avengers: Endgame, and the trailer treats it that way, stacking cameo after cameo into a single war.
The Moment That Sells It
The standout beat comes at the very end, when Captain America catches his hammer in his hand. It is a quick confirmation that this is still our Steve Rogers and that he is still worthy, and it works as the emotional anchor of the whole trailer. Chris Evans returning to the role has been the headline draw since the first teaser dropped last year, and this payoff leans into exactly why fans wanted him back.
Just as important is what it says about Thor. He has grown into the veteran of the group, a real evolution from the clueless newcomer of the early films through the comedic stretch of the middle era and back to a seasoned warrior. His clash with Doctor Doom is staged to echo the Thanos axe moment from Infinity War, right down to the swing being stopped cold. The difference is that Doom does it effortlessly, and that ease is the point. It signals a threat operating on a completely different level.
Matchups Built Like a Comic Splash Page
The trailer moves fast through a series of one-on-one clashes, and the ones already confirmed are the highlights. Shang-Chi squares off against Gambit, and Yelena Belova faces down Mystique. These rapid pairings carry the energy of pulling action figures out of a box and smashing them together, and that playfulness is a strength rather than a weakness.
The bigger set piece brings the Wakandans, Namor’s people, and the Fantastic Four into the same frame. There is a striking shot of a vast drained landscape that some fans are already reading as the ocean floor pulled back like a parting sea rather than a desert. Whether or not that theory holds, it is the kind of large-scale, splash-page visual that helps a crossover this size stand apart.
Doom, the Reveal Question, and a Loki Surprise
Doctor Doom’s design looks clean and about as comic accurate as it gets, which matters for a villain carrying a film of this scale. The trailer offers no clear indication that anyone inside the story learns it is Tony Stark under the mask, and keeping that hidden, or saving it for a final reveal, would give the movie one more card to play. Closing things out, Loki turns up in his TVA and Loki series outfit, a small but genuinely exciting nod for anyone who followed that corner of the multiverse.
What We Know
Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron. The film reportedly runs 165 minutes, placing it between Infinity War and Endgame in length, and it opens in theaters on December 18, 2026. The story picks up more than a year after the events of Thunderbolts, gathering the Avengers, the New Avengers, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, and the original X-Men to face Doom together.
For all the returning faces, there were no Spider-Man or Wolverine surprises tucked into this first look, which leaves plenty of room for Marvel to hold a few reveals in reserve. On the evidence here, the studio has done a strong job of instilling a level of hype that was not fully there before.
