DreamWorks Animation has finally pulled back the curtain on Shrek 5, revealing a fresh cast lineup alongside a new teaser trailer. While fans are thrilled to see the beloved green ogre return, not everyone is sold on his updated look—including, it seems, the official Sonic the Hedgehog movie account.
In a tongue-in-cheek TikTok post, the Sonic Movie account offered some “advice for green ogres,” poking fun at Shrek 5’s design by referencing Sonic’s infamous live-action debut. The video highlights Sonic’s own transformation, from the widely criticized 2019 version with human-like teeth and small eyes to the fan-approved redesign that followed an intense backlash.
While Shrek’s latest appearance hasn’t sparked quite the same level of controversy, Sonic’s playful jab has delighted social media users. “You know it’s bad when the Sonic Movie account is giving Shrek advice,” one commenter quipped, while another joked, “No way they actually posted this.”

The road to Shrek 5 has been a long one. Originally announced in 2016, the sequel remained in limbo for years before Chris Meledandri, CEO of Minions studio Illumination, confirmed its active development in 2023. Universal Pictures has since rescheduled its release date to December 23, 2026, bumping it from an earlier slot to make way for Minions 3.
As anticipation builds, the question remains: will Shrek 5’s final look win over longtime fans, or is this just the start of an ogre-sized debate?
