Netflix is developing a live-action series based on the Persona video game franchise, according to a report from Variety. The streamer has not publicly confirmed the project, but a writer and several producers are already attached.
Christopher Monfette is set to write the adaptation and serve as showrunner and executive producer. Monfette’s television credits include 12 Monkeys, Star Trek: Picard, and 9-1-1. He is also attached as a writer and co-executive producer on the upcoming Marvel series VisionQuest for Disney+.

Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps Entertainment are on board as executive producers. 21 Laps is the company behind Stranger Things, the Netflix flagship that recently wrapped after five seasons, and it currently holds an overall television deal with the streamer. Levy directed and co-wrote Deadpool & Wolverine.
Story Kitchen is producing as well, with Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson executive producing. The company, founded in 2022, specializes in adapting video games and other nontraditional properties for film and television. Its current slate includes live-action takes on Tomb Raider and Life Is Strange, both set up at Amazon Prime Video. Toru Nakahara of Sega is also executive producing.
Persona began in 1996 as a spinoff of Atlus’s Shin Megami Tensei series, launching with Revelations: Persona. The games are developed by P-Studio, a division of Atlus, and published by Sega. The franchise centers on Japanese high school students who balance everyday routines and friendships with battles against supernatural threats, summoning manifestations of their psyche called Personas. Six main entries have been released to date, along with roughly 15 spinoffs, and the series has built a devoted following on the strength of its style, music, and character writing.

The brand has stayed busy heading into the back half of the decade. Persona 5: The Phantom X arrived in 2025, Persona 4 Revival is scheduled for February 2027, and Sega confirmed in June 2026 that Persona 6 is in development. That activity gives any screen adaptation a steady stream of source material to draw from.
A live-action Persona would join Netflix’s growing lineup of video game adaptations. The streamer produced the live-action Witcher series and animated hits including Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Sega has leaned harder into screen projects since the success of the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog films, with Nakahara previously outlining a plan to expand Atlus worlds for new audiences.
For now, the project sits in early development. No cast, episode count, or release window has been announced, and Netflix declined to comment. Adaptations at this stage are not guaranteed to move forward, so the series could change shape or stall before any production begins. Still, the combination of a Netflix overall deal, a video game adaptation specialist, and direct involvement from Sega signals real intent behind the effort.
