Marvel and Lucasfilm announced Star Wars: Ahsoka – Escape From Thrawn on October 7, a five-issue miniseries showing how Ezra Bridger got off Grand Admiral Thrawn’s Star Destroyer. Issue #1 goes on sale January 20, 2027, the same day Ahsoka season 2 premieres on Disney+.

The Comic

Rodney Barnes is writing from a story by Dave Filoni, with art by Andrea Di Vito, who drew Marvel’s Thrawn: Alliances. Phil Noto did the main cover for the first issue.

The season 1 finale had Ezra sneak aboard the Chimaera as Thrawn left Peridea, then skipped ahead to his reunion with Hera Syndulla. The comic covers the trip in between. Marvel’s solicitation has Ezra hunted through hyperspace by Captain Enoch, dealing with Nightsister magick, and trying to outthink Thrawn long enough to get off the ship alive.

This is new story material. Barnes’s previous Ahsoka book for Marvel was an eight-issue retelling of season 1 that ended in February 2025. Mynock Manor points out that Escape From Thrawn is also the first comic series with Ezra in the lead.

Captain Enoch shows up on both sides of the premiere date. The season 2 trailer has Ezra and Enoch fighting again, and it shows Thrawn arming Enoch and his troops with Nightsister magick, so the comic’s villain carries straight into the show.

Lucasfilm Publishing holds its Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 9 at 11 a.m. Eastern in Room 409, where more details and more announcements are expected.

Where Season 2 Stands

Season 2 premieres Wednesday, January 20, 2027, more than three years after the season 1 finale. It runs eight episodes, all written by Filoni. The Playlist lists the directors as Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jennifer Getzinger, and Anders Engström.

The first trailer debuted at D23 on August 14, with Filoni, Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen, and Eman Esfandi on stage. Dawson told the crowd, “This season is massive!”

The trailer splits the story across two galaxies. On Peridea, Ahsoka and Sabine Wren are still stranded and chasing Baylan Skoll, now played by Rory McCann after Ray Stevenson’s death in 2023. McCann appears briefly with his face hidden by snow and wind. Christensen is back as Anakin Skywalker, both as a Force ghost and in Clone Wars flashbacks with Ariana Greenblatt as young Ahsoka. Huyang fights Shin Hati with several lightsabers at once.

In the main galaxy, Thrawn declares war on the New Republic. Ezra flies with New Republic starfighters and reunites with Zeb Orrelios, the last member of the Ghost crew he had not seen since coming home. Hera and Senator Xiono both appear, and Admiral Ackbar is in the season as Thrawn’s opposite number.

The central figure is a tall, regal character with a crown and long beard, flanked by a female figure on the left, adorned in elegant attire, and a male figure on the right, wearing a dark cloak. They each hold circular symbols against a background of intricate, swirling patterns.

The Mortis Gods

Filoni confirmed to Empire in September that the Mortis gods are part of season 2, calling them “definitely a thing.” Season 1 ended with Baylan standing on a statue of the Father on Peridea. Filoni said the season deals with whether the characters believe what they are seeing and what happens if it is real. He also said viewers will not need to rewatch the Mortis arc from The Clone Wars to follow it.

Empire ran a new image with the interview showing Ahsoka riding a large creature across a barren stretch of Peridea, white lightsaber lit.

After Season 2

There is no season 3 renewal. Asked about it by Screen Rant in May, Filoni said he knows where the story goes and where it should tie up, and would not say more.

Ahsoka is the only live-action Star Wars series currently on the Disney+ schedule. Season 2 was listed for 2026 on Disney+ at the start of this year before Disney moved it to 2027. It now leads into a year that includes the 50th anniversary theatrical re-release of Star Wars in February and Star Wars: Starfighter on May 28.
