Embark Studios is taking both of its shooters to the screen. Nexon, which owns the Stockholm developer, has set up TV series and movies based on ARC Raiders and The Finals with Chernin Entertainment as lead producer. Chernin is the film and TV division of The North Road Company, and Variety reports that it beat out several other production companies and studios that were competing for the rights.

The announcement did not name writers, directors, a network, or a distributor for any of the projects, and none of them have release dates.

A Deal Embark Has Been Teasing Since Launch

Patrick Söderlund, Embark’s founder and CEO, told GamesBeat shortly after ARC Raiders came out that he had lost count of the companies asking to adapt it. At the time he said nobody at the studio was working on a film or series yet, and that he would only agree to one if it was done the right way.

Söderlund has since added the title of executive chairman at Nexon. In the announcement he said Embark’s creative teams will work closely with Chernin for the length of the process, and he described the agreement as the next step in building both games into transmedia properties for their player communities.

ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders launched on October 30, 2025 and has sold more than 16 million copies. It is an extraction shooter set on a future Earth overrun by machines called ARC. Players are Raiders who leave the underground settlement of Speranza to scavenge the surface, where the machines and other squads of Raiders are both trying to kill them.

The game won best multiplayer at the 2025 Game Awards and at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, plus online game of the year at the 29th D.I.C.E. Awards. Its largest content update so far, Frozen Trail, arrives Wednesday, October 7.

The Finals

The Finals is a free-to-play first-person shooter built around a virtual combat game show. Contestants fight for cash in arenas modeled on real places, including Monaco and Las Vegas, and nearly every building in those arenas can be blown apart. Embark says more than 30 million players have registered in the three years since release. Season 12 begins October 20.

Of the two, The Finals gives its writers less to start with. ARC Raiders has a setting with a history, a home base, and a reason for people to go topside. The Finals has a format, a pair of announcers, and no scripted story, so a series or film will have to invent the contestants and whatever is going on outside the broadcast.

Chernin’s Track Record

David Ready, Chernin’s president of film, called the two games “ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises” and said the company’s film and television teams will work on them together.

Chernin’s most recent theatrical release, Backrooms, was adapted from Kane Parsons’ YouTube horror series and grossed more than $400 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. The company also produced The Last House for Netflix. Its TV credits include Chief of War, See, and Truth Be Told at Apple TV, along with The Madness and Man on Fire at Netflix.
