Sebastian Stan has confirmed he is playing Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II, ending months of contradictory reporting about which Gotham character he signed on for.
The confirmation came in an interview with French outlet Le Journal du Dimanche, published Tuesday. Speaking alongside Fjord co-star Renate Reinsve, Stan was asked what he could share about Avengers: Doomsday. His answer was that he genuinely does not know much, because the production never handed the cast a complete screenplay. They shot scattered scenes, and producers kept the full script away from actors so journalists could not pry details out of them. Stan said he has worked under that rule for fifteen years and is used to it.
He then applied the same restriction to his DC project, saying he also cannot talk about The Batman: Part II, by Matt Reeves, “where I play Harvey Dent.”
That single clause is the news. Stan was not asked about the role, and he named it in the middle of explaining that he is not allowed to discuss the movie.

Months Of Conflicting Reports
Stan joined the sequel in January 2026 in an undisclosed role. The Hollywood Reporter reported shortly afterward that he had been cast as Harvey Dent, Gotham’s district attorney and the future Two-Face. That held as the accepted version until June, when Jeff Sneider reported the opposite, claiming Stan was actually playing serial killer Victor Zsasz and that Brian Tyree Henry had the Dent role instead.
Set photos of Stan with a shaved head gave the Zsasz theory real traction, since the character has been played bald in Batman Begins and on Gotham. Le Journal du Dimanche notes the shaved head is for the Batman: Part II shoot.
Worth flagging for anyone writing headlines: Stan says Harvey Dent, not Two-Face. He does not mention the transformation, the scarring, or anything about where the character lands by the end of the film. He did tell Deadline in May that he is playing “many roles” in the sequel, which fans read as a Two-Face hint, but that remains an interpretation rather than a confirmation.
Everything Else Around It
Reeves confirmed in May that Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Charles Dance, and Sebastian Koch had joined the cast, with roles unannounced. Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne alongside Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Barry Keoghan. Reeves co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin, and production has been underway in the UK since late May.
The Batman: Part II opens in US theaters on February 18, 2028, after a third delay pushed it off October 1, 2027 to make room for J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond. The film Stan was actually promoting, Cristian Mungiu’s Fjord, won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in May. Avengers: Doomsday arrives December 18, 2026.
