The Streets of New York Witness a Long-Awaited Reunion
Production for the third season of Daredevil: Born Again has sent shockwaves through the Marvel fan base this week following a series of high-profile leaks from the set in New York City. On April 3, 2026, several photographers captured images of Mike Colter and Finn Jones alongside Krysten Ritter, effectively confirming that the original Defenders lineup is officially back together.
While Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones had already been integrated into the currently airing second season, the appearance of Colter and Jones marks the first time the “Heroes for Hire” duo has been seen in character since their respective series were cancelled nearly eight years ago. The photos, which quickly went viral on social media, show the trio filming scenes near a production hub in Manhattan, signaling a massive scale-up for the Disney+ series.

Familiar Suits and New Roles
The leaked images offer more than just a glimpse of the actors; they provide intriguing hints about where these characters find themselves in the current MCU timeline. Mike Colter was spotted wearing a sharp, dark gold suit and tie, a look that mirrors the finale of Luke Cage Season 2 where he took over as the head of Harlem’s Paradise. However, some fans have pointed out that the attire also resembles Luke Cage’s “Mayor Cage” look from recent comic book runs, sparking speculation about his political future in the show.
Finn Jones was seen sporting a white shirt and dark green trousers, a grounded update to Danny Rand’s classic aesthetic. Meanwhile, Krysten Ritter remains true to form in her signature black leather jacket and distressed jeans. Interestingly, some shots showed the actors wearing dark, hooded robes over their costumes between takes—a common tactic used by Marvel to hide updated hero suits or specific plot-related gear from prying eyes.

Protecting the City in the Man Without Fear’s Absence
The timing of these leaks is particularly notable as Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently in the middle of its streaming run on Disney+. According to industry insiders, the narrative justification for the Defenders reuniting in Season 3 revolves around a power vacuum in Hell’s Kitchen. Rumors suggest that Matt Murdock may be “missing in action” following the explosive events of the Season 2 finale, leaving Jessica, Luke, and Danny to pick up the slack.
The set photos also featured Zabryna Guevara, who plays Sheila Rivera, the character expected to succeed Wilson Fisk as the Mayor of New York. The presence of the Defenders alongside the new Mayor suggests that the street-level heroes will be heavily involved in the political restructuring of the city as they face a looming threat—potentially a more comic-accurate version of The Hand, which was teased in recent trailers for other upcoming Marvel projects.
A Decade in the Making
For many viewers, this reunion represents the ultimate “reclamation” of the Netflix-era Marvel Television shows. Since the 2017 Defenders miniseries, the status of these characters within the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe remained “nebulously canon” at best. With Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio already firmly established in the new era, the return of Colter and Jones completes the puzzle.
While Marvel Studios has yet to release an official statement regarding the leaked photos, the physical evidence of the four leads sharing the screen again has essentially confirmed that the “Street-Level Avengers” are no longer a thing of the past. Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again is expected to wrap filming later this year with a projected release in early 2027.
