In the fast-paced world of Hollywood, a publicist is often the invisible hand shaping the stories we love. They are the crisis managers, the brand builders, and the architects of those high-profile moments we see at Comic-Con. But for Maddy Myer, being a publicist is just one part of a much larger story.

This week on the Geek Freaks Podcast, we sat down with Maddy to discuss her career in the entertainment and sports sectors, the changing landscape of PR, and the launch of her highly anticipated new podcast, Maddy Mania.

The Pivot: From Nursing to PR Powerhouse

It’s hard to imagine Maddy anywhere but in the thick of a press junket, but her journey actually began in a nursing program. “I realized sooner than later that I did not like blood,” Maddy joked during our sit-down.

A natural communicator and a “Gemini who couldn’t handle a boring desk job,” Maddy pivoted to Public Relations at USC. Since the age of 19, she has been honing the skills required to manage high-level talent. Today, she’s a pro at navigating the “behind-the-curtain” moves that keep the industry running—from rigorous media training to managing the high-stakes chaos of a project launch.

The Modern Publicist: Beyond the Magazine

The days of relying solely on radio interviews and print magazines are fading. As Maddy explained, the modern PR landscape is now a fusion of traditional strategy and social media management.

“Content is everything these days,” Maddy says. In an era where a collaboration with an influencer can be just as impactful as a late-night talk show appearance, Maddy has stayed ahead of the curve. Whether she’s working in the entertainment world or the adrenaline-fueled sports space, she understands that the heart of the business is the same: Fandom.

Enter ‘Maddy Mania’

After years of building IP for others, Maddy is finally launching her own. Maddy Mania, debuting March 5th, is described as a perfect blend of the “fan spiral” and “inside chat.”

The show isn’t just about professional analysis; it’s about the raw, unfiltered passion that makes us geeks in the first place. Maddy plans to dive deep into her own “hyper-fixations”—ranging from the nostalgia of Teen Wolf and Gossip Girl to her deep-rooted love for professional wrestling and K-Pop.

“I wanted a platform where I could yap and talk people’s ears off about things I’m super passionate about,” she shared. But it’s not all just “yapping.” Maddy is bringing her industry rolodex with her, featuring a guest lineup that includes:

  • EC3: Wrestling legend and former WWE/TNA star.
  • Teen Wolf Creatives: The writers and composers who shaped the sound of the iconic series.
  • K-Pop Producers: The minds behind hits for groups like NCT and SHINee.

Building Community

At its core, Maddy’s mission is about community. Whether it’s meeting friends at a wrestling event or connecting with fellow “Arianators,” she knows that fandom is what brings people together. Through Maddy Mania, she’s inviting listeners to join her in that “quarter-life crisis fuel” to turn passion into something productive and fun.
