HBO has released the first Season 3 trailer for House of the Dragon, and it is basically a statement of intent: the slow burn is over. The Dance is officially in its ugly phase, with armies marching, ships colliding at sea, and dragons doing what dragons do best.

The teaser kicks off with the fallout from Season 2’s ending. Rhaenyra is moving like someone who thinks the board is about to flip in her favor, including a plan that hinges on Alicent opening the gates of the Red Keep. But the trailer immediately undercuts that optimism with warnings that Alicent cannot be trusted, setting up a Season 3 where every “peaceful” move looks like it might be a trap.

From there, the footage leans hard into the scale fans have been waiting for. You get flashes of the Battle of the Gullet, the infamous sea fight that turns into pure chaos once dragons enter the equation. The shots of burning ships and dragon shadow over open water make it pretty clear the show is aiming to deliver one of its biggest action sequences yet, and it looks brutal in the best and worst ways.

The character beats are just as sharp. Daemon is back in full war mode, speaking to Rhaenyra like she’s standing on the edge of becoming something darker, not just “the rightful queen.” There’s also a quick reminder that the Greens are still a mess internally, with Aegon on the run after Season 2 and Aemond settling into power like he plans to keep it. If Season 2 was maneuvering and resentment, Season 3 looks like the moment all that tension finally cashes out in fire.

HBO has confirmed the season arrives in June 2026, and it is expected to run eight episodes. No exact premiere date yet, but the trailer makes the selling point obvious: this is the war season.
