Jason Momoa is officially set to star as the lead in a live-action adaptation of Helldivers, with Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions backing the project. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 10, 2027.

The movie adapts the co-op sci-fi shooter franchise from Arrowhead Game Studios, best known for its squad-based missions, heavy firepower, and satirical “managed democracy” vibe. That tone is a big part of what made the games stand out, and it is also what makes this adaptation interesting. If it leans too seriously, it risks losing the identity fans love. If it goes full parody, it could undercut the scale that makes the concept work on a big screen.

Justin Lin is attached to direct, which hints at a fast-moving, action-forward approach that could fit the franchise’s chaotic teamwork and everything-goes-wrong energy. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the foundation is clear: a cinematic take on a world where propaganda, aliens, and friendly fire can all share the same frame.

With a firm date on the calendar and a major star in the lead, “Helldivers” is now one of the bigger game-to-movie swings on the horizon, and one that will live or die on whether it nails that specific mix of spectacle and satire.
