Callum Vinson just picked up a huge new role in the live-action God of War series, signing on to play Atreus, the son of Kratos.

What makes the casting even more interesting is that Vinson is also already tied to another major franchise: he’s set to play a young Jason Voorhees in Crystal Lake, Peacock’s prequel series set in the world of Friday the 13th.

What This Means for God of War

Prime Video’s adaptation is building around the father-son core that drove the 2018 game, with Ryan Hurst cast as Kratos and Vinson stepping in as Atreus, described as Kratos’ 10-year-old son.

The show is being led by Ronald D. Moore, and Frederick E. O. Toye is set to direct the first two episodes. As of now, a premiere date has not been announced.

Crystal Lake Is Taking a Different Swing at Friday the 13th

On the horror side, Vinson is playing young Jason in Crystal Lake, with Linda Cardellini starring as Pamela Voorhees. The project is coming from A24 and is run by Brad Caleb Kane, who has framed the series as a paranoid 1970s-style thriller that still carries the “slasher DNA,” including big kill sequences.

Plot specifics are still being kept close to the chest, but the intent sounds clear: this is aiming for more than just a greatest-hits run at campfire carnage.

Who Is Callum Vinson?

Vinson’s been stacking credits ahead of these two franchise swings, with appearances that include Long Bright River, The Night Agent, and Coup!, plus a role on Chucky.

Landing Atreus and young Jason back-to-back is the kind of one-two punch that can change a career fast, especially when the roles sit on opposite ends of the genre spectrum: mythic action drama on one side, and iconic slasher lore on the other.
