Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday marketing just took a very old-school approach: put the first real tease in theaters and make people go see it. Starting with Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings, moviegoers are now getting an in-theater-only Doomsday teaser that ends with a big headline moment: Chris Evans is officially back as Steve Rogers.

The key detail here is that this is not just another “rumor Evans is returning” cycle. The teaser reportedly ends with a direct on-screen confirmation that Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday, turning the whole thing into a clean, official stamp after years of fans assuming his MCU run was truly over following Avengers: Endgame.

What The Teaser Shows (And Why It Matters)

According to reporting on the theater-exclusive footage, the teaser plays like a quick character-focused scene rather than a big montage. Steve arrives home, and the sequence pivots into a domestic moment that includes him holding a baby before the teaser ends with that “Steve Rogers will return” message.

Even without giving away too much, the takeaway is pretty obvious: Marvel is leaning into Endgame’s time-travel ending as a story door they can reopen whenever they want. Steve’s retirement was emotional and definitive, but the multiverse and timeline mechanics give Marvel plenty of ways to bring him back without pretending the ending never happened.

The Avatar Pairing Is Not Random

Avatar: Fire and Ash hits U.S. theaters on December 19, 2025, with previews beginning December 18. Attaching a Marvel teaser to the biggest theatrical event of the year is a classic “get people in seats” move, and it also helps Marvel control the reveal. Instead of dropping a trailer online and letting the internet chew it into dust in 24 hours, the studio gets a few days where the only legit way to see it is to buy a ticket.

Of course, that strategy comes with a downside: leaks. Footage has already been making the rounds online, and reports say Disney and Marvel have been moving quickly to take down uploads. That push-and-pull is basically inevitable once a trailer is exclusive to theaters.

Where This Puts Doomsday On The Road to 2026

Avengers: Doomsday is currently dated for December 18, 2026, with the Russo brothers directing. Marvel is also lining up Avengers: Secret Wars for December 17, 2027, which makes this teaser feel less like a random stinger and more like the official starting gun for the MCU’s next big event stretch.

And yes, if you’re keeping score, this is also the movie bringing Robert Downey Jr. back to the MCU in a new role as Victor von Doom. With Steve Rogers back in play, Doomsday is clearly aiming for that “every era matters” feeling, and this teaser is the first real piece of proof.
