Nintendo and Illumination premiered the first full trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during a short Nintendo Direct this morning, confirming the sequel’s April 3, 2026 theatrical release and giving a proper look at its planet-hopping scope.
The footage leans into space adventure. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad launch beyond the Mushroom Kingdom, bouncing between tiny worlds and set pieces that nod to the Galaxy games. Bowser appears briefly, still bite-size after the last film’s finale, while the main threat comes from Bowser Jr. and a magic paintbrush that can turn objects into metal, raising the stakes for the crew’s cosmic detour. Yoshi, teased previously, is not in this trailer.

Two new voices headline the cast additions. Brie Larson is Princess Rosalina, the cosmic guardian fans have been waiting to see on the big screen, and Benny Safdie is Bowser Jr., the pint-sized chaos engine trying to free his dad. Both characters are featured clearly in the trailer.
The core ensemble returns: Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and screenwriter Matthew Fogel are back, with Brian Tyler returning to compose.

Beyond the casting, the trailer’s tone looks fast and playful rather than jokey. There are quick hits of Galaxy flavor, including Lumas and readings from a storybook, plus a few blink-and-you-miss planets that suggest a tour through multiple biomes rather than one central hub. It feels like a step up in scale from the 2023 movie without losing the bright, toy-box look Illumination used the first time.
Given how the original crossed the billion-dollar mark, a sequel was inevitable. What today’s trailer shows is a team leaning into the Galaxy identity: compact worlds, momentum-driven gags, and a new foil in Bowser Jr. that changes the dynamic. With Rosalina in the mix, there is room for a little wonder too.
