Disney’s 20th Century Studios has officially put The Simpsons Movie 2 on the calendar for July 23, 2027, unveiling a first poster that features a pink donut drawn by series creator Matt Groening.
The Announcement
The studio confirmed on social media that an “all-new movie” based on the long-running animated series is in the works. Story details and final title were not disclosed. The project lands almost 20 years to the week after the original film hit theaters in 2007.

Calendar Shift
The date takes over a slot previously held by an untitled Marvel title, which has been removed from Disney’s release lineup. As it stands, there will be no MCU feature between Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
Franchise Context
The sequel is timed ahead of the show’s upcoming Season 40 in 2028, keeping the brand active on both film and TV. The 2007 feature, which followed Homer and his pet pig triggering an environmental crisis in Springfield, grossed more than $536 million worldwide, signaling continued theatrical potential for the IP.
What’s Still Under Wraps
Key creatives, voice cast confirmations, and plot direction have not been announced. Groening teased the possibility of a second film back in 2019, and today’s update marks the clearest step yet toward a return to theaters.
