Marvel Animation is stepping into adult territory with Marvel Zombies, a four episode event that premieres September 24 on Disney+. The new trailer opens with a stark line that asks who will save us from our heroes, paired with a clear TV MA advisory that signals a blood heavy story. It is a clean break from the usual all ages vibe and it sets expectations right away.

Set in the alternate timeline introduced by What If… Zombies?!, the series follows a small group of survivors who believe they have found a way to stop a super powered plague. The hook is simple and grim. Earth’s greatest protectors are now the threat. The living have one shot to fix it and the journey looks fast and brutal.

The voice cast brings back a strong slate of MCU stars. Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Tessa Thompson, Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Hailee Steinfeld, Wyatt Russell, Randall Park, Iman Vellani, and Dominique Thorne return to their roles. Familiar voices should help the horror land harder since fans already feel a connection to these characters.

Creative leadership ties the show to Marvel’s current animation style while pushing into darker territory. Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells are at the core, with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, and Dana Vasquez Eberhardt among the executive producers. Danielle Costa and Carrie Wassenaar produce. That continuity suggests the series will keep the sharp timing and cinematic framing of What If…? while leaning into true horror.

The four episode format matters. A compact run often means tighter pacing, higher stakes, and fewer reset buttons. It also lets Marvel test adult animation in a focused way. If the story hits, Marvel gains a template for future mature event series on the platform. If it only half lands, it still resets expectations for what Marvel Animation can try.

What to watch for when the show drops. How far the TV MA rating goes in terms of violence and moral choices. How the survivors problem solve when super powers rewrite the rules of a zombie story. Whether the series sticks the landing with a clear ending, since a short season lives or dies on payoff.
