Why I Chose To Watch This
Takopi’s Original Sin is written by Taizen 5. I had already read The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins and was drawn to Taizen’s voice. I had also heard that Takopi’s Original Sin was a dark, twisted story, which only made me more curious.
Plot Mechanics
A small pink alien named Takopi crash lands on Earth. He is a Happian from the planet Happy, sent to spread joy with a pack of “Happy Gadgets.” His first human friend is Shizuka Kuze, a lonely girl who is bullied and struggling at home. Takopi’s kindness and cluelessness collide with harsh human realities, and those gadgets often backfire, turning good intentions into bigger problems.
The story weaves character choices and consequences in a tight, escalating arc. It explores how neglect, fear, and the urge to protect can warp people. Takopi’s naivety is the crucial ingredient that pushes events in unexpected directions.
As spoiler free as possible, my only small gripe is that I wanted a touch more in the ending and a few more details about Takopi. The adaptation hews close to the manga, and adding much more might have hurt the finale, so this may be personal preference.
Plot: 9.75/10

Themes
This series tackles bullying, abuse, trauma, and helplessness with unflinching focus. The contrast is sharp. Children and a cheerful alien are usually symbols of innocence, yet here they are the lens for the story’s darkest truths. The anime leans into those themes and lets them shape every scene.
Characters
Flaws define these characters, and that is what makes them compelling. Takopi’s innocence drives the narrative. His lack of human understanding keeps raising the stakes in ways that feel organic to the world.
Shizuka Kuze carries some of the heaviest burdens. Watching her face bullying and neglect is tough, and the revelations about her add real weight. Marina and Azuma round out the cast with their own secrets and scars, each adding a new angle to the tragedy.

Aesthetics and Tone
This is not a light or cheerful watch. Direction, framing, and sound design work together to underline the story’s darkness without tipping into edge for edge’s sake. The mood is consistent and purposeful.
Aesthetics and Tone: 10/10
Art and Animation
The art and animation are superb. Character designs feel intentional, facial expressions land, and movement reads clearly. Visual choices often reveal the true emotion behind an action, which fits this story perfectly.
Art and Animation: 10/10
Overall Rating and Recommendation
I would recommend Takopi’s Original Sin to most anime fans who can handle heavy themes. It is nearly a complete package, from concept to execution. It sticks with you and invites reflection long after the credits.
Overall: 9.9/10
