Millennium Media is moving ahead with a Rambo prequel titled John Rambo, with Noah Centineo set to take on the role of a young John Rambo. The film will explore Rambo’s early years as a U.S. Army Green Beret during the Vietnam War, showing the experiences that shaped the man audiences first met in First Blood.
The project will be directed by Jalmari Helander, known for the action thriller Sisu, with a screenplay by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Filming is planned to begin in Thailand in early 2026. Lionsgate is the leading contender to distribute the film, following its involvement in the last two Rambo entries.

Sylvester Stallone, who originated the role in 1982, is not involved in this prequel but is aware of the project and Centineo’s casting. The five existing Rambo films have grossed more than $800 million worldwide, with the most recent, Rambo: Last Blood, earning $92 million in 2019.
Centineo rose to fame in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and the Netflix spy series The Recruit. He has also appeared in action roles such as Atom Smasher in Black Adam and is set to play Ken Masters in the upcoming Street Fighter adaptation. Landing the role of Rambo could mark a major step in his shift toward becoming a leading action star.
