Sony Pictures Animation is developing a new animated feature centered on Spider-Punk, with Daniel Kaluuya and Ajon Singh set to co-write. While plot details are still under wraps, it’s likely Kaluuya will return as the voice of Hobie Brown, the character he voiced in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Punk, also known as Hobie Brown, was introduced in 2015’s The Amazing Spider-Man #10. Created by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel, this version of Spider-Man fights oppression with a rebellious spirit and a punk-rock edge. His Earth-138 origin and anti-establishment attitude made him an instant standout in Across the Spider-Verse, where Kaluuya’s performance and the character’s unique cutout animation style made a lasting impact.
The Spider-Punk film would be part of Sony’s growing animated Spider-Verse. With Beyond the Spider-Verse scheduled for 2027 and other projects like Spider-Noir starring Nicolas Cage in the works, Sony is continuing to explore new corners of the multiverse.

Kaluuya, already an Oscar-winning actor, has been expanding his work behind the camera. He co-directed Netflix’s The Kitchen and is producing a live-action Barney film with A24 and Mattel. His creative direction could give Spider-Punk a fresh tone that leans into style, message, and music.
Sony’s animated Spider-Verse has consistently pushed boundaries. This new entry could bring even more innovation, while giving a fan-favorite hero his moment to shine.
