The upcoming Street Fighter film adaptation is bringing in some unexpected names. Comedian and podcaster Andrew Schulz has been cast as Dan Hibiki. Rapper and actor Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is taking on the role of Balrog. Both are bold choices that point to a unique tone for the movie.

Dan Hibiki first appeared in Street Fighter Alpha as a loud, over-the-top parody character. He talks tough but rarely lands a hit. Schulz, known for his sharp comedy and rising acting career, seems like a natural fit. He recently appeared in Netflix’s Tires and released a new comedy special titled Life.
50 Cent is reportedly in talks to play Balrog, the disgraced boxer turned enforcer for the Shadaloo crime syndicate. In the games, Balrog is a fallen fighter who uses brute strength and intimidation. Jackson’s resume includes Power, Home of the Brave, and Righteous Kill, making him a strong match for the role.

The cast already includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Orville Peck as Vega, and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. Kitao Sakurai, known for Bad Trip, is directing. The script is written by Dalan Musson, who previously worked on Captain America Brave New World. The film is being developed by Legendary Pictures with Capcom and will be released by Sony Pictures. It currently does not have a release date.
With a mix of fighters, comedians, and musicians, this version of Street Fighter looks like it will lean into both action and personality. Whether it works or not, it’s definitely going to be a ride.
