FX is developing a new comedy with monster-sized potential. Very Young Frankenstein, a series inspired by Mel Brooks’ 1974 classic Young Frankenstein, is in the early stages at the network. If it moves forward, Brooks will executive produce the project alongside longtime collaborator Kevin Salter and a creative team familiar to FX fans: Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi, and Garrett Basch.

Robinson is set to serve as showrunner. She’s known for her work on Atlanta and What We Do in the Shadows, and has a strong history with FX. Her recent projects include Fargo, Man Seeking Woman, and Adults. Waititi and Basch, who co-created and produced Reservation Dogs, Our Flag Means Death, and Interior Chinatown, bring plenty of experience in genre-blending comedy.

While the plot is still under wraps, the title Very Young Frankenstein hints at a younger spin on the original story. Brooks’ Young Frankenstein was a parody of 1930s monster movies, co-written with Gene Wilder and shot in black and white. It became one of the most beloved comedy films of all time thanks to performances from Wilder, Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, and Peter Boyle.

This new series marks the second Brooks-related revival in the works. Amazon MGM recently announced a sequel to Spaceballs slated for 2027, with Brooks returning as Yogurt and original cast members like Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis, and Daphne Zuniga also coming back. That film will feature new cast additions including Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Josh Gad.

With Brooks turning 99 this month, his fingerprints on these revivals feel like a celebration of a legendary career. The team behind Very Young Frankenstein seems like a solid fit to continue that legacy, especially given their success with blending horror and comedy in recent years.
