Paramount+ has confirmed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will conclude its run with a fifth and final season. The streaming platform shared that Season 5 will consist of six episodes, with production set to begin later this year. The announcement comes just ahead of the show’s third season, which premieres July 17 with a two-episode debut.
The series has been a standout in modern Star Trek, balancing nostalgia with fresh storytelling. It brought back a spirit of optimism and exploration that defined the original series, something fans and critics alike have praised. In fact, Strange New Worlds earned a Best Drama Series nomination at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards and took home a Saturn Award in 2022 for Best Science Fiction Television Series.
Executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman shared their gratitude for the five-season arc, calling it a “mission” they always intended to complete. They also thanked the fan community for their support, promising that the upcoming seasons still hold much for viewers to enjoy.
Season 3 will continue to follow Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Number One (Rebecca Romijn), Spock (Ethan Peck), and the rest of the USS Enterprise crew. The cast is joined by Carol Kane and Paul Wesley in special guest roles.
The news of the planned conclusion mirrors a similar move for Star Trek: Lower Decks, which also wrapped with its fifth season. This signals a broader transition for the Star Trek streaming lineup, as Paramount+ appears to be adjusting its sci-fi strategy in a changing content landscape.
While it is bittersweet to know the end is in sight, the creative team’s ability to wrap the story on their terms is a rare luxury in today’s industry. With three more seasons still to come, the crew’s final adventures will give fans plenty to look forward to.
