The iconic preschool series has found a new global home as Netflix secures Season 56 of Sesame Street along with 90 hours of classic episodes, giving families around the world one easy place to stream the show.

A Refreshed Format

The upcoming season shifts to one focused 11 minute story per episode and welcomes back beloved segments such as Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck, aiming for even more character-driven humor and heart.

New installments will debut on the same day across PBS stations and PBS KIDS digital platforms, preserving Sesame Street’s free-to-air tradition for American viewers while broadening its reach on Netflix worldwide.

Sesame Workshop shepherds the reimagined run with executive producers Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings. Emmy-nominated writer Halcyon Person steps in as head writer, guiding the show’s mix of early-learning curriculum and playful storytelling.

Beyond TV Episodes

The deal also lets Netflix develop video games inspired by both Sesame Street and spin-off Sesame Street Mecha Builders, expanding the brand into interactive play for young fans.

HBO Max stepped back from kids programming in 2024. Netflix moved quickly to fill that gap, and children’s series already account for roughly 15 percent of the service’s viewing time. Adding Sesame Street boosts its family catalog while letting the Workshop keep vital public-broadcast roots alive on PBS.

The Bottom Line

Families get more ways to watch, educators keep a trusted classroom resource on familiar platforms, and the long-running series stays fresh for its 56th year with shorter stories, new creative leadership, and a global streaming push that still honors its public-television beginnings.
