After years of speculation and fan anticipation, Krysten Ritter is officially reprising her role as Jessica Jones, reintroducing the sharp-tongued private investigator to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The news broke during Disney’s upfront presentation in New York, where Ritter appeared on stage alongside Charlie Cox to announce that she will join Daredevil: Born Again for its second season.
This marks the first time Ritter’s Jessica Jones will appear in the official MCU, having originated in the Netflix-Marvel universe back in 2015. The original Jessica Jones series ran for three seasons on Netflix and was widely acclaimed for its darker tone and mature storytelling, anchored by Ritter’s gritty, emotionally complex performance. Fans have long praised her portrayal of the superpowered PI who gave up the cape in favor of solving crimes and confronting her traumatic past.

Ritter’s return is another major step in Marvel’s effort to integrate the Netflix heroes into the broader MCU. Charlie Cox’s Daredevil already made brief appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, while Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin has returned in Hawkeye and is set to be a major player in Born Again. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is also confirmed for the series, indicating that Marvel isn’t shying away from its more grounded, street-level characters.
Ritter’s return was previously limited by licensing agreements that kept the Netflix characters sidelined for at least two years after cancellation. That period has long since passed, and Disney is now fully leaning into the opportunity to bring these characters—and their original actors—back into the fold.
“It’s so great to be back,” Ritter told the crowd. “Returning to Jessica after three seasons and The Defenders, and now joining the MCU, I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character. Without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!”
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is already in development, with the first season set to premiere in March 2025. While plot details are under wraps, the inclusion of Jessica Jones strongly suggests Marvel is building toward a more interconnected world of urban heroes—one where personal demons are just as powerful as the supervillains they face.
With Ritter’s return, the MCU is about to get a little more cynical, a lot more complex, and way more interesting.
