Rockstar Games has finally put a date on it—Grand Theft Auto VI is now officially targeting a May 26, 2026 release, and the latest trailer makes the wait look more than worth it.
Dropped without warning on May 6, the second GTA VI trailer is a visual stunner, seamlessly blending cinematic cutscenes and actual in-game footage captured on a PlayStation 5. What stands out immediately is the raw fidelity: glowing sunsets over Vice City, grime-caked back alleys, and reflections that actually move like real water. Rockstar isn’t just flexing their graphical muscles—they’re making a statement.
The trailer introduces two playable leads: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, caught in what appears to be a twisted love story wrapped inside a sprawling conspiracy. Unlike previous entries where criminal ambition often took center stage, this one feels more intimate and desperate. Lucia and Jason aren’t just breaking laws—they’re trying to break free from something much bigger.
The world itself is expanding in every direction. GTA VI’s version of Florida, dubbed Leonida, is no longer just Vice City. We’re looking at a statewide playground, with six confirmed regions, including the neon-soaked streets of Vice City, the beach-heavy Leonida Keys, and what appears to be dense swamp country. Early teases hint at unique missions tied to these areas, as well as side activities that range from fishing and street racing to… gator-wrangling?
Rockstar’s updated website didn’t stop at the trailer. It also delivered over 70 screenshots, new character bios, and some intriguing bullet points suggesting wildlife interactions, dynamic weather, and more multi-part heists that can branch based on your choices.
One of the biggest surprises? The decision to delay the game. While fans originally hoped for a 2025 launch, Rockstar says the May 2026 window reflects their commitment to shipping the game “only when it’s ready.” If the trailer’s polish is anything to go by, they’re holding themselves to the highest standard yet.
