Searchlight Pictures has officially announced Ready or Not: Here I Come, the next chapter in the fan-favorite horror series, and two major names are stepping into the spotlight. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood are joining the cast, bringing star power and serious horror cred to the sequel.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, best known for her iconic role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has long been a genre favorite. Elijah Wood has carved out a post-Lord of the Rings career filled with daring and offbeat horror choices, from Maniac to Come to Daddy. Together, their casting suggests that Ready or Not: Here I Come is aiming for something stylish, clever, and full of genre energy.

They’ll join returning lead Samara Weaving, whose performance in the original Ready or Not helped turn the sleeper hit into a fan-favorite horror classic. The first film followed a newlywed caught in a deadly family ritual and struck a balance between intense thrills and dark comedy. It earned over $28 million at the domestic box office on a modest $6 million budget and became a go-to horror recommendation almost overnight.

Directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back, along with writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Production is already underway in Toronto, though plot details are being kept under wraps for now. Joining the new cast are Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg.

With Gellar and Wood on board, this sequel is not just building on a cult favorite. It is making a statement. Searchlight President Matthew Greenfield teased a wild and fun return, saying the film will offer a new take that feels as twisted and entertaining as the original.

If the first film tore into tradition and survival with a wicked grin, this sequel looks ready to do the same with even more firepower in front of the camera.
