Marvel Rivals is officially entering its second season, and it’s shaping up to be a major step forward for the fast-paced hero shooter. Launching today, Season 2 brings with it an exciting new playable character, Emma Frost, a map set on the mutant island of Krakoa, and sweeping changes to the competitive landscape.

Developer NetEase has been steadily building momentum for Season 2 over the past few weeks, teasing updates and gameplay improvements across its community channels. Now, with the update live worldwide, players can jump straight into the action and explore what’s new.

Emma Frost Headlines the New Additions

One of the most anticipated additions this season is the arrival of Emma Frost, known in Marvel lore as the White Queen. In Marvel Rivals, she steps into the role of Vanguard hero, boasting a skill set that blends psychic manipulation and durable diamond form defenses. Her Ultimate ability, which forces enemies to involuntarily walk toward her, opens up unique opportunities for environmental knockouts — a flashy addition that is already turning heads in early play sessions.

Players who are quick to reach Gold tier in Ranked Mode this season will also unlock an exclusive Emma Frost skin, adding even more incentive to master the telepathic powerhouse.

Krakoa Enters the Fray

Alongside Emma Frost, the new Hellfire Gala: Krakoa map sets the stage for Domination mode battles. Decked out in the lush, vibrant visuals of the mutant homeland, the map offers dynamic play spaces and visual flair that align with the season’s X-Men theme. The new map is part of a competitive map rotation overhaul, with older maps like Yggsgard: Royal Palace and Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya retiring from ranked play for now.

Competitive Overhaul and Rewards

Season 2 introduces significant changes to Marvel Rivals’ ranked system. All players have been reset by nine divisions, leveling the playing field. Player performance will now play a bigger role in rank progression, moving beyond simple win-loss records to reward individual contribution to matches.

For the first time, players reaching Gold rank and higher will be able to ban Heroes from their opponents’ rosters, introducing a layer of strategy to competitive play.

A new season event, Cerebro Database, has also been launched, and the mission system has received a full revamp to better reward active engagement. The latest Battle Pass, Flower of Krakoa, features 10 new character skins, with highlights including Iron Fist, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and fan-favorite X-Men looks for Psylocke and Magik.

What’s Next for Marvel Rivals

The arrival of Season 2 underscores NetEase’s commitment to keeping Marvel Rivals fresh and evolving. The community-driven approach, frequent balance updates, and addition of fan-favorite characters continue to build on the game’s growing success.

For seasoned players and newcomers alike, Season 2 offers plenty of reasons to return to the battlefield — whether it’s testing Emma Frost’s telepathy, exploring Krakoa, or climbing the ranks in pursuit of new rewards.
