NetEase Games has officially pulled back the curtain on Marvel Rivals Season 2, revealing a bold new direction for the superhero shooter: the Hellfire Gala. Launching April 11, the update brings a fresh coat of glamor and intrigue to the battleground, with X-Men’s Emma Frost and longtime Avengers nemesis Ultron taking center stage in the season’s first trailer.
The cinematic teaser offers fans a dazzling preview of what’s to come, confirming that the Hellfire Gala storyline will frame much of Season 2’s content. Set in the year 2099 after a mysterious temporal storm disrupts the island of Krakoa, the storyline promises high-stakes drama, uncertain alliances, and the kind of stylish chaos only the Marvel Universe can deliver.
“Once a year, this sovereign Mutant island opens its gates,” reads the official event description. “Now stranded in the year 2099, the fate of Krakoa hangs in the balance, its ecosystem suffering from dangerous chronal energy.”
The Season 2 theme was long suspected, especially after eagle-eyed fans spotted clues hinting at Emma Frost’s involvement in the form of a cryptic Gallery Card back in February. Known for her telepathic prowess and diamond-hard skin, Frost has been a fan-requested addition since the game’s launch. Her debut, along with the ominous presence of Ultron, could significantly shake up the current meta.
Ultron’s appearance marks another major step for Marvel Rivals. While his arrival was teased before the game’s initial release, many assumed the sentient AI would remain in a non-playable role. The trailer suggests otherwise, with Ultron sharing prominent screen time with Emma Frost. Whether he joins the roster or simply influences the storyline remains to be seen.

Conspicuously absent from the reveal, however, is Blade. The Daywalker was repeatedly referenced in Season 1, including brief in-game cameos, leading many to believe he would headline Season 2. With no sign of him in the current promo material, some fans are speculating that Blade’s introduction may be delayed or saved for a mid-season drop.
Still, the Hellfire Gala event appears to be Marvel Rivals’ most ambitious content rollout yet. Following the introduction of the Fantastic Four in January, Season 2 continues NetEase’s commitment to evolving the game beyond typical hero shooter expectations. Alongside new heroes and skins, players can expect additional game modes and possible lore-driven events to accompany the glitzy gala.
Season 2 of Marvel Rivals goes live on April 11. Whether you’re there for the fashion or the fury, the party on Krakoa is shaping up to be one Marvel fans won’t want to miss.
