In a bold move reaffirming its dominance in primetime animation, Fox has announced four-season renewals for “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” “Bob’s Burgers,” and the returning “American Dad,” securing all four series through the 2028–2029 broadcast season.

The sweeping deal, one of the largest multi-show renewals in recent memory, underscores Fox’s long-term investment in its “Animation Domination” lineup and reflects the continued popularity of adult animated comedies across broadcast and streaming platforms.

“The Simpsons,” now heading into Seasons 37 through 40, remains the longest-running primetime scripted series in television history. Meanwhile, “Family Guy” will continue through Season 27, “Bob’s Burgers” through Season 19, and “American Dad” — returning to Fox after a decade on TBS — is locked in through Season 23.

The announcement follows months of negotiations, particularly surrounding “American Dad,” which originally launched on Fox in 2005 before transitioning to TBS in 2014. The show will remain in reruns on Warner Bros. Discovery channels, including Adult Swim and TruTV, through at least 2030, creating a rare overlap between network partners.

Fox executives hailed the renewals as both a celebration of legacy content and a strategic win in the increasingly competitive TV landscape.

“This new deal celebrates the eternal popularity of these iconic comedies,” said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network. “That goes double for Seth [MacFarlane] this time around.”

Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment, emphasized the broader implications: “This collaboration has and will continue to generate meaningful long-term value and strategically build audiences from Fox to Hulu to fans worldwide.”

Streaming numbers continue to reinforce the staying power of these shows. In 2024 alone, “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers” ranked among Nielsen’s most-streamed programs, drawing 42.4 billion and 36.8 billion minutes viewed, respectively. All four shows are available for global streaming on Disney+ and Hulu, a partnership that ties together Disney-owned 20th Television Animation and Fox’s programming slate.

The renewals also provide Fox a rare stability in a rapidly shifting entertainment market, locking in 16 seasons of content and securing its core animation lineup — a feat increasingly rare in today’s industry of short-term orders and streaming-first priorities.

The creative teams behind the shows will remain intact. Matt Groening and Matt Selman continue to lead “The Simpsons,” with Seth MacFarlane, Rich Appel, and Alec Sulkin heading “Family Guy.” Loren Bouchard, Nora Smith, and Holly Schlesinger will guide “Bob’s Burgers,” while “American Dad” continues under co-creator Mike Barker’s production umbrella.

With “Universal Basic Guys,” “Krapopolis,” “The Great North,” and “Grimsburg” rounding out Fox’s growing animation slate, the network is positioning itself not just as a legacy player but as a forward-facing hub for adult animation.

The renewed shows account for more than 2,000 episodes combined — a testament to their cultural impact and fan devotion across generations.
