The next chapter in the Spider-Man franchise officially has a name and a release date. Sony Pictures announced at CinemaCon that the fourth Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film will be titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day and is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
The announcement marks a new creative direction for the franchise, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton stepping in to helm the film. Cretton attended the event in person, while Holland, currently filming The Odyssey in Europe for director Christopher Nolan, addressed attendees through a pre-recorded video.
For longtime comic fans, the title Brand New Day may evoke memories of the controversial Marvel Comics storyline that rebooted Peter Parker’s life after the events of One More Day. While plot details for the film remain under wraps, the name hints at a similar narrative pivot—a hard reset following the universe-shattering events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“It’s a fresh new start. That’s all I can say,” Holland teased, acknowledging the emotional cliffhanger that left Peter Parker alone, forgotten, and rebuilding from scratch.
Cretton emphasized his love for Spider-Man’s relatability, saying, “The hero behind the mask wasn’t so different from me.” He also noted that the creative team is “nerding out” daily, pouring passion into the smallest details, from the suit design to how Spidey swings across the skyline.
This is the first Spider-Man film since 2021’s No Way Home, which became a box office juggernaut and fan-favorite by uniting three generations of Spider-Men on screen. Brand New Day appears poised to take Peter Parker into unexplored emotional and narrative territory—grounded, personal, and full of possibility.
Sony is betting big on the continued success of its Spider-Verse, with Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter also in the pipeline. But Brand New Day might be the most pivotal of them all—resetting the stakes and redefining Spider-Man’s place in a post-Multiverse saga.
Fans can expect more updates in the coming year as filming begins and additional cast announcements are made. For now, one thing’s clear: Spider-Man is back, and it’s a whole new day.
