Jonathan Majors, once slated as the linchpin of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next chapter, is now watching from the sidelines—but he’s not closing the door on a return. The actor, who portrayed Kang the Conqueror and its many variants, was removed from Marvel’s upcoming plans following his guilty verdict in a domestic assault case last year.

Majors had been poised to take center stage in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, with Kang originally framed as the Multiverse Saga’s key antagonist. However, following the trial, Marvel Studios swiftly distanced itself from the actor and reportedly pivoted the franchise’s focus toward introducing Doctor Doom—rumored to be played by Robert Downey Jr. in a new twist.

In a recent interview, Majors addressed the public speculation surrounding his possible return and acknowledged the complexities of redemption within Hollywood. “You play the hand you’re dealt. It’s not over until it’s over,” Majors said. When asked directly about Marvel’s pattern of second chances—citing Robert Downey Jr.’s troubled past and Jeremy Renner’s legal issues—Majors remained diplomatic, yet hopeful.

“Of all the characters I’ve played, Kang carries a certain novelty and challenge for an actor,” he said. “I would love to play him again. As long as the fans are still talking, there’s hope.”

Majors didn’t stop there. He expressed deep admiration for the role and the unique opportunity it presented. “I miss it. I want to do it again,” he said, noting the rich potential Kang offers due to the character’s multi-faceted nature and presence across timelines. “If there’s a way, I’d love to do it again. That’s in the hands of the Disney corporation.”

The Magazine Dreams actor also revealed that he wrote a letter to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige following his dismissal. “I don’t know how it was received,” Majors admitted. “I didn’t hear back. I love that man. I’ve got nothing but love for Marvel.”

Despite the uncertainty, speculation continues that Kang’s storyline may be wrapped up in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars—possibly through a multiverse shake-up or an off-screen resolution. Whether Majors returns, is recast, or Kang fades into narrative obscurity remains to be seen.

For now, the actor remains optimistic, banking on the enduring power of fan conversation. “As long as the streets are talking, there’s hope.”
