Matthew Lillard, known for his role in Five Nights at Freddy’s, is the latest actor to join Daredevil: Born Again for its second season, Deadline reports. The Marvel Television series, which marks the continuation of Netflix’s critically acclaimed Daredevil (2015-2018), is set to begin production next week.

Details about Lillard’s character remain undisclosed, keeping in line with Marvel’s usual secrecy. His casting comes just ahead of the highly anticipated Season 1 premiere, with its first two episodes set to debut on Disney+ on March 4.

A New Chapter for Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk

Daredevil: Born Again follows Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened senses, as he continues his fight for justice in New York City. Meanwhile, his longtime adversary Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), formerly known as the Kingpin of Crime, is now navigating the political landscape, setting up yet another inevitable clash between the two.

Season 1 features several returning actors from the original Netflix series, including Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. Other cast members include Margarita Levieva, Ayelet Zurer, Nikki M. James, Michael Gandolfini, and Wilson Bethel.

The series went through a creative overhaul in 2023 following a production pause due to the WGA strike. Early reactions to the reworked version have been largely positive, heightening expectations for Marvel’s latest attempt at long-form television storytelling.

Lillard’s Expanding Resume in Genre Films and TV

Lillard has been making a strong comeback in high-profile franchises. He is set to reprise his role in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and was recently announced as returning to the Scream franchise in Scream 7. He also appears in Cross, Amazon’s adaptation of James Patterson’s Alex Cross series, and will star in The Life of Chuck, based on Stephen King’s novel, directed by Mike Flanagan.

His addition to Daredevil: Born Again further cements his resurgence in major Hollywood projects, with fans eager to see how he fits into the dark, grounded world of Matt Murdock’s Hell’s Kitchen.

With Daredevil: Born Again officially greenlit for a second season before its premiere, Marvel Studios is doubling down on its commitment to bringing the street-level hero back into the spotlight. As production gears up, speculation continues over who Lillard could be playing—whether a new villain, an ally, or perhaps a long-lost character from Daredevil’s deep comic book history.
