DC Studios and HBO have unveiled the first official look at Lanterns, the highly anticipated Green Lantern TV series. The image showcases Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad) and Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) in their roles as John Stewart and Hal Jordan. While the actors are not yet suited up in their Green Lantern uniforms, Chandler’s character is seen wearing a glowing green ring—a small but significant nod to his transformation into one of DC’s legendary space cops.

The series follows Stewart, a new recruit, and Jordan, a seasoned veteran, as they take on a dark and mysterious murder case in the American heartland. The official synopsis describes them as “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery.” The noir-inspired approach sets Lanterns apart from previous Green Lantern adaptations, promising a grounded yet cosmic detective story.
Veteran showrunner Chris Mundy (Ozark), along with acclaimed writers Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and Tom King (Batman), are leading the project. Mundy, Lindelof, and King are also executive producers, joined by James Hawes (Slow Horses), who is directing the first two episodes.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has previously teased that Lanterns will be a crucial piece of the interconnected DC Universe (DCU). While no official release date has been announced, the series is expected to be a key part of DC’s upcoming slate, alongside Superman (2025) and The Authority.
With its mix of cosmic intrigue and detective storytelling, Lanterns could finally deliver the live-action Green Lantern adaptation fans have been waiting for.
