Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is heading back to the big screen for its 20th anniversary, Lucasfilm and Disney have announced. The final chapter of George Lucas’ Star Wars prequel trilogy will be re-released in theaters on April 25, giving fans a chance to experience Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader like never before.

For the first time, Revenge of the Sith will be available in 4DX, a format that enhances the film with motion-synchronized seating and over 21 immersive effects, including wind, water, scent, and strobe lighting. This version of the film will be available both domestically and internationally, bringing a new level of intensity to one of the most pivotal entries in the Star Wars saga.

To mark the occasion, graphic artist Matt Ferguson has designed a brand-new theatrical poster for the re-release, celebrating the film’s legacy.

Released on May 19, 2005, Revenge of the Sith debuted to $158.4 million at the U.S. and Canadian box office during its opening weekend. The film went on to gross $380.2 million domestically and $849.99 million worldwide, cementing its place as a blockbuster hit.

A Galaxy in Turmoil: The Story of Episode III

Set years after the onset of the Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith follows Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) as he is drawn to the dark side under the manipulations of Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). As the Jedi Order fights to save the crumbling Republic, Anakin’s tragic fall leads to the rise of the Galactic Empire. The film culminates in the legendary duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), a battle that reshapes the fate of the galaxy.

The ensemble cast also includes Natalie Portman, Frank Oz (as Yoda), Jimmy Smits, Peter Mayhew, Ahmed Best, Temuera Morrison, Anthony Daniels, Silas Carson, Kenny Baker, and Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu, along with the late Christopher Lee as Count Dooku.

The legacy of Revenge of the Sith has continued in Star Wars storytelling, with the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi expanding on the aftermath of the film’s events.

With its return to theaters in a fresh format, longtime fans and newcomers alike will get to relive the emotional depth, high-stakes action, and stunning visuals that made Revenge of the Sith a defining moment in the saga.
