Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios have officially announced a new animated series, Avatar: Seven Havens, set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The announcement comes as part of the franchise’s 20th-anniversary celebration, marking the first major television installment in the Avatar universe since The Legend of Korra.
The upcoming 2D-animated series will introduce fans to a new Earthbender Avatar, following in the footsteps of Aang and Korra. According to Nickelodeon, Seven Havens is set in a world “shattered by a devastating cataclysm.” The young Avatar, alongside her long-lost twin, must navigate a fractured world where she is seen as a destroyer rather than a savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, the Avatar’s journey will take her through the mysterious Seven Havens, civilization’s last strongholds, in a desperate bid to prevent their collapse.
A Bold New Direction for Avatar Studios
Series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko return as co-creators, joined by executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. The series will be structured into two seasons, with Book 1 and Book 2 each comprising 13 episodes.
“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko said in a statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters.”
This marks the first mainline television series developed by Avatar Studios, the animation division created specifically to expand the Avatar universe. In addition to Seven Havens, Avatar Studios is currently working on an animated feature film centered on adult Aang and Team Avatar. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on January 30, 2026.
Expanding the Avatar Universe
The announcement of Seven Havens is part of a broader celebration of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s 20-year legacy. Alongside the new series, Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios have revealed a slate of upcoming projects, including new books, comics, concerts, toys, and even an interactive Avatar experience on Roblox.
