Microsoft has confirmed its ambition to support Nintendo’s next-generation Switch 2 console with a robust lineup of Xbox titles. The move follows leaked reports suggesting first-party Xbox games such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection could soon appear on Nintendo’s highly anticipated successor to the Switch.

A New Era of Collaboration

In a recent appearance on the Gamertag Radio podcast, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed Microsoft is “really looking forward” to backing Switch 2. Spencer praised Nintendo’s continual innovation and hinted at a strong partnership:

“Nintendo and their innovation, what they mean in this industry, I just always applaud the moves that they make. Really looking forward to supporting them with the games that we have.”

He also revealed he personally congratulated Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa on the Switch 2 reveal and showed appreciation for a larger screen, joking that his “old eyes” would benefit.

Xbox Games on Nintendo Switch 2

Spencer’s comments reinforce earlier rumors that most Xbox games could release on Switch 2 if the console’s hardware can handle them. Notable examples include:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection
  • Existing Xbox titles already on Switch, such as Minecraft and Pentiment, hint at an expanded presence.

Microsoft’s broader multiplatform strategy is also in full swing. Games like Doom: The Dark Ages will launch on PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox and PC. Meanwhile, upcoming releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are set for simultaneous launches across multiple platforms.

Third-Party Titles Join In

It’s not just Microsoft anticipating the Switch 2. Multiple third-party publishers are reportedly aligning games for the console’s launch or near-launch window:

  • Square Enix: Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2025, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in 2026
  • Konami: A potential Switch 2 version of Metal Gear Solid Delta
  • Ubisoft: Launch window port of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, plus The Division series and Rainbow Six Siege
  • Nacon: Projects a release window for Switch 2 between April and September, hinting at games like Test Drive Unlimited and RoboCop: Rogue City

Why It Matters

  • Increased Accessibility: More games on Switch 2 opens the doors for players who primarily game on Nintendo consoles.
  • Industry Collaboration: Microsoft’s emphasis on supporting multiple platforms reflects a shift toward more inclusive gaming experiences.
  • Competitive Edge: Sony and other publishers will likely respond to the growing momentum behind Nintendo’s new console.

Next Steps

Microsoft’s commitment to “put the games first” signals a future where more blockbuster titles cross the console divide. While the exact capabilities of Nintendo’s latest hardware remain under wraps, industry watchers eagerly await official technical details—especially when the Switch 2 aims to handle graphically demanding games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
