Chad Stahelski, director of John Wick, has shared new details about the upcoming Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill. The film will follow Cavill as a 500-year-old sword master and martial arts expert, set in “beyond present-day” New York and Hong Kong. Cavill’s character, likely one of the franchise’s iconic immortal warriors, has spent centuries honing combat skills while grappling with his unique existence.

Stahelski described the story as blending myth, action, and an unconventional love story, drawing inspiration from his experience on John Wick. The reboot will incorporate elements from the original 1986 cult classic, which starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, as well as aspects from the Highlander TV series. Stahelski hinted at a prequel-like setup leading to The Gathering, the legendary clash of immortals.
Cavill, a lifelong fan of Highlander, has promised even more impressive swordplay than in The Witcher. Stahelski aims to start filming by spring 2025, with a release planned for 2026. The director sees the reboot as a potential launching pad for expanding the Highlander franchise.
