The Journey of Death Stranding
Death Stranding was originally released in 2019 as a PlayStation exclusive, followed by a PC release in 2020. Now, five years later, the game has arrived on Xbox. Here’s what Xbox players can look forward to:
- Available Platforms: Now on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.
- Launch Discount: 50% off at launch, thanks to 505 Games.
- Timing: Released five years after the PS4 launch, likely due to the end of Sony’s exclusivity period.
What’s in the Director’s Cut?
The Death Stranding Director’s Cut adds new content and improvements to the base game, making it the most complete version of Death Stranding. Here’s what’s new:
Key Features
- The Ruined Factory: A new location with tough challenges.
- Additional Delivery Tools: New gear like the Cargo Catapult, ramps, and stabilizers to help players navigate the game’s rugged terrain.
- Enhanced Combat: New moves, including a drop kick, and the Maser Gun, which can disable enemies and vehicles.
- Firing Range and Racetrack: Test weapons in the Firing Range or compete in races in the online-connected Racetrack mode.
- Buddy Bots: Traverse the game’s wastelands with support from helpful bots.
Kojima expressed his gratitude to fans, especially those who have waited for the Xbox release, saying, “Thank you to all the fans who have stayed connected with us as well as everyone in the Xbox community who have been patiently waiting.”
What’s Next for Kojima Productions?
Kojima Productions also announced that it now fully owns the Death Stranding intellectual property, which opens up more possibilities for the franchise’s future. Along with Death Stranding 2, set to launch as a PS5 exclusive in 2025, there’s also a Death Stranding film adaptation in development.
Additionally, Kojima Productions is working on:
- OD: A game in development for Xbox Game Studios.
- Physint: An IP being developed for Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Will Death Stranding 2 Come to Xbox?
Now that Death Stranding has made its way to Xbox, some fans are wondering if Death Stranding 2 could follow. While the sequel is currently planned as a PS5 exclusive, the Xbox release of the first game opens up the possibility that we might see the sequel on more platforms down the line.
