New York Comic Con 2024 brought a wave of excitement with major reveals spanning movies, TV shows, video games, and comics. From new Star Wars projects to a surprise Karate Kid film, NYCC provided plenty for geek culture fans to celebrate. If you couldn’t attend, here’s everything you need to know about the biggest announcements from the event!



Star Trek Takes the Spotlight at NYCC 2024
One of the weekend’s most anticipated panels was the Star Trek Universe showcase. Paramount Plus revealed several new projects that left Trekkies eagerly awaiting what’s next for the iconic franchise.
- Star Trek: Lower Decks will return for its fifth and final season on October 24, 2024. The panel featured a sneak peek at the premiere episode, and the cast, including Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid, reflected on the show’s incredible run as the “Lower Deckers” step into their new roles as junior grade lieutenants.
- Starfleet Academy is set in the 32nd century, following a group of Starfleet cadets as they come of age. Big surprise? Tatiana Maslany has joined the cast, and the show is already renewed for a second season before its debut. Fans were especially excited to see Robert Picardo return as The Doctor!
- Strange New Worlds has wrapped filming for Season 3, and fans got a thrilling sneak peek of a Gorn spaceship battle. Rhys Darby (Our Flag Means Death) is joining the cast, playing a mysterious yet familiar character that has fans buzzing.
- Star Trek: Section 31 will be the franchise’s first TV movie, premiering on January 24, 2025. Michelle Yeoh returns as Philippa Georgiou in what promises to be an intense exploration of Starfleet’s black-ops division.
HBO’s Dune: Prophecy Prequel Series Unveiled
In the world of epic science fiction, HBO stunned fans with a new trailer for Dune: Prophecy. Set to premiere on November 17, 2024, this prequel series takes place 10,000 years before the events of Dune and follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces threatening humanity. The series, inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune, adds even more depth to Frank Herbert’s expansive universe.
Creature Commandos Trailer Teases Clayface and Circe
Creature Commandos, the animated series kicking off James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, debuted its first trailer, giving fans their first look at Clayface and Circe. The trailer shows Amanda Waller sending Rick Flagg Sr. into a mission involving a new team of antiheroes, including The Bride, Doctor Phosphorus, and G.I. Robot.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Swings to PC – No Venom DLC Planned
Marvel fans were thrilled to learn that Spider-Man 2 will officially release on PC on January 30, 2025. However, Insomniac disappointed those hoping for Venom DLC, confirming that no additional story content is planned for the game. While console players have been enjoying the action, PC gamers are eagerly awaiting their chance to swing into the adventure.

Secret Level Star-Studded Cast Revealed
Prime Video’s Secret Level is an upcoming adult-animated anthology series set to premiere on December 10, 2024. Developed by Tim Miller and Blur Studio, known for Love, Death & Robots, the show features 15 standalone episodes, each exploring iconic video game universes. Games like Warhammer 40K, Mega Man, and Pac-Man are among the many featured. The series boasts an all-star voice cast, including Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, Emily Swallow, and many more. Expect some incredible sci-fi storytelling with this stacked ensemble.

Kraven the Hunter Director Teases More Marvel Characters
NYCC attendees got an exclusive look at the first seven minutes of Kraven the Hunter, the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film set to release on December 13, 2024. Director J.C. Chandor teased that Marvel characters beyond Kraven and Rhino will appear, sparking speculation among fans. The intense footage showed Kraven on a violent hunt in a Russian prison, giving fans a taste of the gritty action to come.


Daredevil: Born Again Gets Official Release Date
One of the major highlights from the Daredevil: Born Again panel at New York Comic Con was the official announcement that the series will premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. Vincent D’Onofrio is returning as Kingpin, a role he portrayed to critical acclaim in both the Daredevil Netflix series and Hawkeye. Charlie Cox will also reprise his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and Jon Bernthal will return as the Punisher. The series will consist of nine episodes and is set to dive deep into Daredevil’s street-level heroics in Hell’s Kitchen, with political intrigue surrounding Kingpin, who is now running for mayor of New York City. The trailer shown at the panel included intense action sequences, showcasing Daredevil back in his iconic suit.


DC Comics Announces Batman: Hush Sequel and Vertigo’s Return
The Batman: Hush sequel was one of the biggest comic book announcements of NYCC 2024. The new storyline, set to begin in March 2025 with Batman #158, reunites writer Jeph Loeb and artist Jim Lee. Fans will also get a prelude to the new arc in Justice League Unlimited #1, coming this November.
In another exciting development, the beloved Vertigo imprint is making its comeback, with a focus on adult-oriented, creator-owned projects. Vertigo’s first release will be a reprint of The Nice House by the Sea by James Tynion IV and Álvaro Martínez Bueno.



Absolute Expands
DC’s Absolute Universe took center stage, with exciting new announcements about Absolute Flash, Absolute Green Lantern, and Absolute Martian Manhunter. These reimaginings are part of DC’s initiative to reinvent iconic characters for a modern audience, with the heroes depicted as underdogs in a shared universe.
- Absolute Green Lantern, written by Al Ewing and illustrated by Jahnoy Lindsay, will feature a bold reimagining of Green Lantern lore, incorporating Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Jo Mullein. This version presents a drastically different take on the Lanterns, blending first-contact themes with high stakes as a giant Green Lantern object plays a mysterious role.
- Absolute Martian Manhunter, by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez, is being touted as one of the most radical reinventions in the line. The series explores new territory for Martian Manhunter, making him a pivotal figure in the Absolute Universe.
- Absolute Flash, written by Jeff Lemire, offers a darker and more tormented version of Barry Allen, introducing new challenges that will test the speedster like never before.

Eddie Brock Becomes the New Carnage in All-New Venom Series
In the world of Marvel Comics, Eddie Brock will become the new Carnage in the upcoming series All-New Venom. Writer Charles Soule revealed that Eddie will have to feed Carnage’s bloodlust by targeting serial killers. Marvel also teased the Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse crossover event, set to launch in May 2025.



Star Wars: Jedi Knights Comic Series Announced
At the Lucasfilm Publishing panel, Marvel announced Star Wars: Jedi Knights, an ongoing comic series debuting in March 2025. The series, written by Marc Guggenheim with art by Madibek Musabekov, will explore the heroes of the Jedi Order before the events of The Phantom Menace. Expect to see familiar Jedi like Qui-Gon Jinn, Yoda, and Mace Windu, along with a pre-defection Count Dooku.
Blumhouse Debuts Wolf Man Trailer and More
Blumhouse celebrated their 15th anniversary at NYCC with the debut of the first trailer for Wolf Man, starring Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner. Directed by Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man), the film promises to be a thrilling reboot of the classic creature feature, set to release on January 17, 2025.
The panel also gave fans a first look at the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 poster, continuing the terror-filled franchise.

Marvel’s Doctor Doom Takes Center Stage in The Rise of Emperor Doom
Marvel Comics is preparing for the release of a new crossover event, The Rise of Emperor Doom, which will debut in February 2025. The five-issue limited series follows Doctor Doom as he declares himself emperor of the Marvel Universe, with even the Avengers questioning whether the world is better off under his rule.
Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League Set for 2025 Release
Fans of 2018’s Batman Ninja have something to look forward to as the sequel, Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, arrives in 2025. This film will see Batman face off against an alternate version of the Justice League in feudal Japan, promising a visually stunning continuation of the story.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Reveals Featurette
NYCC attendees got a behind-the-scenes look at The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, an animated film set 183 years before the original trilogy. Focusing on the legendary King of Rohan, this epic story will release on December 13, 2024.
