Marvel fans were treated to a huge reveal in the final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance—the confirmation of Knull, the God of Symbiotes, as the film’s major villain. This marks a pivotal moment not only for the Venom trilogy but also for Marvel’s broader cinematic universe. Let’s break down what we know from the trailer and explore who Knull is and why his appearance is such a big deal.

Knull’s Trailer Reveal: In the latest trailer, we get our first look at the live-action version of Knull. Around the 50-second mark, Venom refers to a mysterious figure as his “creator,” revealing a hive of symbiotes surrounding what appears to be Knull, seated on a throne with long white hair and taloned fingers. While we only catch a glimpse of him, this tease has already electrified fans.

Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock is on the run, with the net closing in from both sides of his world. The introduction of Knull raises the stakes to unprecedented levels, as this could be the most dangerous foe Venom has ever faced. Venom: The Last Dance, the final chapter of the Venom trilogy, looks to end the saga with an epic showdown between the Lethal Protector and the creator of the symbiotes.

Who is Knull?

Knull, created by writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman, first appeared in Venom #3 (2018). As the God of the Abyss, Knull existed before the universe itself, thriving in the void until the Celestials shattered his darkness with light. Enraged, Knull retaliated by creating the first symbiote weapon, the All-Black Necrosword, and decapitating a Celestial. This led to the creation of the symbiotes, organisms that Knull molded as part of his grand plan to plunge the universe back into darkness.

Knull was also responsible for the symbiotes’ enslavement and their evolution into the creatures we’ve seen attached to Venom, Carnage, and others. His hatred for light and life makes him a uniquely terrifying threat, not just to Venom but to the Marvel universe as a whole.

The King in Black Storyline:

In 2020, Knull was central to the King in Black crossover event. During this event, Knull invaded Earth, bringing his symbiote army to overpower Earth’s mightiest heroes, including the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. The battle culminated in Eddie Brock’s Venom playing a key role in Knull’s defeat, with Eddie eventually assuming the title of King in Black.

This storyline is important for Venom: The Last Dance, as it potentially hints at how Eddie and Venom might once again unite to stop their creator. Though this movie takes place outside of the MCU, it could set up Knull as a future major threat, potentially connecting to other Marvel properties.

The All-Black Sword:

Knull’s primary weapon, the All-Black Necrosword, is a sentient symbiote weapon and the first of its kind. It’s been wielded by other villains in Marvel, including Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. The Necrosword is capable of incredible destruction, making it one of the most dangerous weapons in existence.

While the sword hasn’t been explicitly shown in the trailer, it wouldn’t be surprising if Venom: The Last Dance taps into this piece of lore, further connecting Knull to other Marvel movies and characters.

Impact on Venom and Future Marvel Films:

Knull’s introduction opens up enormous potential for future films. Although Venom: The Last Dance marks the end of Eddie Brock’s current storyline, it could be the beginning of something much larger. Knull’s symbiote empire could easily extend to characters like Spider-Man or even cosmic Marvel figures like the Guardians of the Galaxy. Fans speculate that Knull could become Sony’s answer to Thanos, with a looming threat over a Spider-Verse crossover.

As Knull makes his debut in Venom: The Last Dance, Marvel fans are sure to keep a close eye on how this story unfolds and what it could mean for the future of the symbiote universe.

Knull’s arrival in Venom: The Last Dance signals the next level of storytelling for Venom and the symbiotes. With the iconic villain’s comic book history full of cosmic battles and devastating consequences, fans can expect the final Venom film to be an epic conclusion with implications far beyond Eddie Brock’s story. Knull’s appearance could reshape the landscape of Marvel’s future films, making him one of the most exciting villains to hit the big screen in recent years.

Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters on October 25. Get ready for the King in Black to make his mark!
