Backyard Sports, the video game series many of us grew up with, is making a comeback. Playground Productions, the company now in charge of the Backyard Sports IP, has announced that the series will return soon, with new games and much more.
What’s New for Backyard Sports?
Playground Productions recently dropped a teaser trailer featuring familiar characters like Pablo Sanchez and Stephanie Morgan, sparking excitement among fans. Here’s what they’ve shared so far:
- More Than Just Games: Backyard Sports won’t be limited to video games this time around. The franchise will also branch out into film, TV, and merchandise, offering fans different ways to enjoy the series.
- Updated Features: While the new games will keep the original charm, Playground Productions is also adding modern gameplay features and technology. Expect better graphics, smoother controls, and possibly some new elements.
- Classic Characters Return: The teaser confirmed that popular characters from the original games will be back, ensuring the series still feels familiar to long-time fans.

A Long-Awaited Return
The Backyard Sports series first launched in 1997 with Backyard Baseball and quickly expanded into other sports like football, basketball, and hockey. However, the series has been on hiatus since 2015, and fans have been eager for its return.
Earlier this year, NFL star Jason Kelce mentioned on his podcast that he wanted to see new Backyard Baseball and Backyard Football games. Although Kelce isn’t involved in this relaunch, his comments reflect the ongoing interest in the series.
What’s Next?
Playground Productions is working on bringing Backyard Sports back with a mix of old and new elements. Whether you played the original games or are just hearing about the series now, there’s a lot to look forward to.
We’ll be talking more about this on the next Geek Freaks podcast. Be sure to tune in!
