Deep Dive: The Last of Us Season 2

Alongside the Season 2 finale for House of the Dragon, Max has given us our first look at the much-anticipated second season of The Last of Us. Although the trailer offers only a few seconds of footage, it packs a powerful punch.

We get a glimpse of Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby, Catherine O’Hara’s mysterious new character, Jeffrey Wright reprising his role as Isaac, and Isabela Merced as Dina. One of the most riveting moments shows Joel grappling with his pivotal decision from Season 1. The teaser also hints at a flashback from The Last of Us Part 2 that takes place during a party in a barn in Jackson, showcasing both familiar and new scenes that are sure to excite fans.

While an exact release date hasn’t been announced, we know The Last of Us Season 2 will hit our screens in 2025. In our review of Season 1, we praised it as “a breathtaking adaptation of one of the most impactful stories told in video games and brilliantly brings Joel and Ellie’s journey to a whole new audience.”

Eerie Preview: Welcome to Derry

Welcome to Derry, the upcoming It prequel series, received its first terrifying look on the same night as the Season 2 finale of House of the Dragon. Despite the absence of Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise the Clown, the six seconds of footage set a chilling tone.

The teaser reveals a “Welcome to Derry, Maine: Birthplace of Paul Bunyan” sign, a group of terrified people (some covered in blood and goo), and an older child with a creepy smile. This brief glimpse promises a horror series that’s not for the faint-hearted.

While it was initially reported that Bill Skarsgård would not return as Pennywise, it appears he will indeed reprise his role as the iconic clown. Directed by Andy Muschietti, Welcome to Derry will have nine episodes, with Muschietti directing four of them, set to premiere in 2025.

Historical Epic: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

In addition to the Season 2 finale of House of the Dragon, Max shared the first teaser trailer for the Game of Thrones spin-off series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The footage introduces Peter Claffey’s Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell’s Aegon V Targaryen, also known as Dunk and Egg.

Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the series follows the adventures of the unlikely duo. Adapted from George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, the show promises great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits. HBO plans a three-season run for the series, with the first season consisting of six episodes, premiering in 2025.

Conclusion

HBO Max’s 2025 slate promises a thrilling mix of returning favorites and new adventures, ensuring that fans have plenty to look forward to. From the return of beloved series to the introduction of exciting new ones, there’s something for everyone in this impressive lineup.
