Superman Wraps Production: James Gunn’s Heartfelt Message to Fans and Crew

James Gunn’s big-screen introduction to his DC Universe, Superman, has officially wrapped production. The announcement, made through various social media posts on Tuesday, included a heartfelt message from the filmmaker, thanking the cast and crew for their dedication and hard work.

A Touching Farewell from Gunn

Gunn shared a photo from the first week of filming in Svalbard, Norway, and expressed his gratitude in a touching note. “I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much,” Gunn wrote. “And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor.”

On Track for July 2025 Release

Previously titled Superman: Legacy, the film is set for release on July 11, 2025. Despite concerns that last year’s writers’ and actors’ strikes might delay the film, Gunn confirmed in November that the release date would remain unaffected. With filming now wrapped, it looks well on track to meet its scheduled premiere.

Behind the Scenes with Gunn

As co-CEO of DC Studios, Gunn has been unusually communicative on social media, providing fans with frequent updates. Earlier this month, he confirmed that the only two DC Studios films currently in production were Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The latter is set to release on June 26, 2026.

Gunn also made a surprise appearance via video at San Diego Comic-Con last week, where he debuted the new DC Studios logo and the first teaser for the animated Max series Creature Commandos. This series will be the first project to emerge from Gunn’s revamped DCU.
