The excitement at San Diego Comic-Con reached new heights today as Prime Video debuted a captivating new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2. The trailer puts a major emphasis on the Rings themselves and, of course, the enigmatic Sauron.
A Glimpse into Season 2’s Ring-Centric Plot
The trailer opens with a striking shot of Halbrand, portrayed by Charlie Vickers, who was revealed as Sauron in his Season 1 form. Through an ominous voiceover, Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, warns, “Sauron sees himself as master of all of Middle-earth. He seeks to rule it not only through conquest but by bending the minds of all its peoples to his own. And for that, he needs not armies, but Rings.” This foreboding message sets the stage for a season heavily focused on the creation and influence of the Rings.
Galadriel and Elrond: A Clash of Ideals
A pivotal moment in the trailer features Galadriel picking up and donning a Ring, much to Elrond’s (Robert Aramayo) dismay. Elrond’s resistance is palpable as he declares, “In choosing to wear those Rings, you have all become his collaborators.” Galadriel, however, stands firm in her belief that the Ring is guiding rather than deceiving her.
Sauron’s New Form and Key Characters Return
Fans are treated to a fresh glimpse of Sauron’s new Season 2 form—a blonde elf meeting Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards). The trailer also reintroduces familiar faces like the Harfoots and The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), who is still grappling with his purpose. Adding to the intrigue is the introduction of Tom Bombadil, a mysterious character from J.R.R. Tolkien’s lore, who appears set to guide The Stranger.
More Rings, More Power Struggles
The creation of more Rings will undeniably be a central theme in Season 2. We see Prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur) clashing with his father, who possesses a Ring and shows no intention of relinquishing it. Other tantalizing moments include Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) with an Ent, Elrond seeking help from Durin, and a massive battle against orcs, alongside a glimpse of what appears to be a troll.
A Promising Return to SDCC
This year’s San Diego Comic-Con marks another milestone for The Rings of Power, following its grand 2022 appearance. The excitement continues as several cast members are set to make appearances at IGN’s SDCC show this weekend.
